While shopping at Publix today Sissy insisted on weighing herself on the scale.  I took her over and she hopped on.  35 lbs.  As she was jumping off she says, "Your turn Mommy!" 

I ate all your Halloween Candy

I saw this video on a blog and just had to share!  Jimmy Kimmel had a challenge for parents to tape their kids' reaction to "I ate all your Halloween candy."  My husband says it's emotional abuse.  It is a bit mean, but I just LOVE the two boys at the end!

Snowflake Costume??

I'm getting ready for our school's annual Holiday Concert and I'm planning on having Kindergarten students be snowflakes.  I've already got the 3 songs picked out and the students have been working on it.  I found this snowflake costume on Oriental Trading and bought one.

I estimate that about 30-40 Kindergarten students will show, so for $12 a piece it's not possible to have them all wear one of these.  I will have one KG speaker, so only he/she will wear it.  I remember seeing some really cute penguin costumes made with black trash bags and thought we could do snowflakes with white trash bags.  I mentioned it to my art teacher friend and she looked at me with a face of disgust.  She obviously did not like my idea.  I'm pretty sure she thinks it's too trashy (pun intended!).  :) 

So...back to the drawing board for some cheap snowflake costumes!  I don't think this one will work either.

These are SO cute.  Now if I can just get someone to make me 30-40 in 2-3 weeks!  I don't think I can make a trash bag look that cute.

Yay!

We made it through a dinner without Bubby throwing food on the floor!  It was nice.  I don't know if it was because I was more observant and got him out of his high chair as soon as he decided he was done eating or if he liked the food more.  It was speghetti and I did NOT want to clean it off the floor and walls.  We are going to have to paint our kitchen walls close to where his chair is because of him throwing food.  I know Sissy threw food on the floor too, but I don't remember her being as bad as Bubby.

It's the small victories!  Plus it's Friday!!! :-)

Discipline

He was mad because I didn't give him another marshmallow fast enough. :P

I know this blog is supposed to be about my favorite things and discipline is probably my least favorite.   Discipline is such a touchy subject.  Everyone has their own opinion on discipline when it comes to parenting.  I don't prefer to debate the choices in discipline and I honestly don't think there is a right or wrong way to discipline.  Remember, I'm talking about discipline not abuse.  I do feel that there must be some kind of discipline though. 

I often find myself doubting myself and my discipline choices.  Am I being too hard on my children or too lenient?  Am I spending the time to truly teach my child right from wrong?  I'm constantly wondering, hoping, praying that I'm doing it right. 

As a teacher, my views on discipline are a bit different.  I've learned that every child responds differently to different things.  Many schools follow a positive behavior system and I think that is part of the answer.  Children need to feel positive about themself, but they also need consequences.

I have a friend who knows someone (details aren't important) who's child got in trouble at school (ie suspendable offense, so it must have been pretty serious).  Within a week of returning to school from suspension the child got into trouble for the same offense on Halloween Day and was still allowed to Trick or Treat that night.  I don't know all the details of the situation, so I can't say 100% for sure that  I disagree with this parent's discipline.  My first thought was "seriously?!".  I thought about my children and what I'd done if they were older and had gotten into that much trouble at school.  I'm pretty sure the offending child would not be trick or treating.  I almost told Sissy no trick or treating because she didn't take a nap.  I had to remind myself that she is 4yrs old now and is probably growing out of the nap.  Instead, I told her that as soon as she got whiny from being over tired that we were going home.  She actually did well while we were out.  When we were done she actually said "I want to go home."

Toysrus Big Toy book

We got our Big Toy book earlier this week and they hit the papers today!

Sissy and I looked through and and suprisingly she didn't want everything in the book. lol  She did say she "really" wants the Barbie Power wheel.  The $270 one!  I don't think Mommy or Santa will be able to get that.  Her friend has one and she loves driving Bubby in it.  He loves it too.  Maybe we can look for a used gender neutral 2 seater one they can share. lol 

We are already looking into getting Bubby a tryicycle.  I'm thinking we may just need to stick to self proppelled cars/bikes rather than motorized.  :P  I have lots of things in mind to get my kids for Christmas...now I just need to narrow it down to what we are and can get them. 

Did I mention I met my husband at ToysRus?
