Snowflake Costume

Here are the pictures that show the solution to our snowflake costume dilemma.  If you saw my earlier post, I was looking for ideas on snowflake costumes that are cheap and easy to make.  My garbage bag idea was too trashy (pun intended), so my Art teacher friend came up with an awesome idea.  Ironically, she found my blog while searching for snowflake costume ideas before she came up with her own.

I walked into her classroom the other day to see 6 tables that looked just like this...

I picked her brain a little to see what she did and took a few cell phone pictures.

 Materials:

• Fabric paint Blue, White, and Glitter
• Spray bottle (she actually used an old bottle that originally had cleaner in it)
• Blue Felt
• Cardboard Snowflake decorations for template
• Glue and snowflake foam pieces (extras)
• Paint brush
• Thick blue yarn

1. She bought the blue felt and cut them into circles.  I probably would have had problems with even the first step.  My circles may resemble Mr. Potato heads. :P
2. She took the blue fabric paint and diluted and put it into a spray bottle. 
3. Using the templates she placed them on the blue felt and spayed the diluted blue fabric paint over them.  It looks awesome like it was air brushed on. 
4. She used a mixture of the white fabric paint and glitter paint to paint in where the template was to accent the snowflake patterns.
5. She also glued on a couple felt snowflakes.  They look great with or without these.
6. She is going to punch a hole in it to attach thick blue yarn so the children can wear these like a necklace.

I'm so excited!  They've been singing their 3 songs since October.  I only see them once a week, so we had to start early...especially with Thanksgiving week off.

The kids will wear a white polo shirt which is part of our school uniform, so most of them should have one.  If they don't they will wear a blue polo shirt.  I've asked them to wear light khaki pants or white.

This was the 1st design where she used a sponge to apply the fabric paint.

Here's the 2nd design, but we don't have the string/rope on it to wear it like a necklace for the concert.  I taped this one on for the picture. :P

Gus Timer Night Light is half off

I bought one of these for Sissy a couple months ago and she LOVES it.  She has the purple one (which is sold out).  It is perfect for her.  She likes to use it while she "reads" at night and it sits in bed with her.  It's one of her "must haves" in bed.  We still haven't burned through the original batteries that we put in it.  Many times she changes the timer, so that it stays on.  I'm amazed at how long the battery has lasted.  When she got her big girl bed I made sure she had her Gus with her so she could see if she needed to get up to go "potty."  She even drew a picture of her turtle one day.  I think she loves it too much. :)

It is $9.99 right now on babyhalfoff and will probably only last the rest of the night.  They also have these cute sleep training alarm clocks on sale for $19.99.

Update - They may be sold out already.  Keep an eye on babyhalfoff.com because they may be back and they are awesome.  Someone posted on FB that they are worth the full price.  I agree, but half price is even better.

Snowflake Costume Solved

My Art teacher friend came up with an awesome inexpensive idea for our snowflake costumes!  I'll post about it soon and put up some pictures.  She is so awesome and creative.  People think I'm creative because I'm a musician, but I definitely am not.  I can take someone's idea and add to it or create from it, but I'm horrible at coming up with my own, creative, idea/design. 

Bubby's 1st haircut!

We did it.  We cut off his cute little curls.  The top was getting pretty long and I knew it was time to cut it.  I thought about just trimming the top and leaving the curls, but I didn't want him to have a mullet.  Just another sign my baby boy isn't so much a baby anymore.  :}

Ice Cream Treat!

He did such a good job!  We weren't sure how we would react or if he'd let the lady cut his hair, but he did great.  I was a little worried when the woman said that she'd try, but there were no guarantees.  He didn't want the cape on which I should have known better.  He's hates bibs and always has.  I took that off and he whined for a second and then was fine.  He was more curious about what she was doing than upset.  That's more than what we could say about the little girl next to us.  She was screaming.  I felt so bad for the Dad (and the hairstylist) that was trying so hard to get her to calm down, so they could finish.

He now has a cute little boy hair cut.

2 Years of Weight Watchers Magazine for over 85% off!

I saw this deal and may get it for myself!  I started Weight Watchers around Spring Break earlier this year and I've lost about 35lbs.  I haven't been consistent the whole time and really only maintained during the Summer (that's better than gaining like I have in the past).  I still haven't gotten consistent about doing Weight Watchers recently and I really need to get back on plan especially with the holidays coming up.  I have a lot more to lose...more than I'm willing to admit.  I'm signed up to use the weight watchers online and I've never been to a meeting, but it works for me.  I don't have time to go to a meeting.  Let me rephrase that, I don't want to sacrafice family time to go.  I love how Weight Watchers is not just low calorie, low fat, or low carbs (I've done those too).  It's a combination of all those (+ protein and fiber) to get your points.  I almost bought a magazine at the store the other day.  Now, I'm glad I waited.  Hopefully, reading the magazine will give me the motivation and strategies to get back on plan and start losing again.

Silly students...The three Pigs

I was retelling the story of The three Pigs to a Kindergarten class to teach high and low by using different voices and pitches for the characters. At the end when I asked them what happened to the wolf when he went down the chimney, a student said "the pigs wolfed him down."
