I was out at PE one day and a 1st grader came up to Coach crying saying she hurt her head on the pull-up bars. Even I know that Coach has a rule that kids are NOT allowed to hang upside down on the pull-up bars. He was trying to figure out how she could have hit her head if she was following the rule.
Coach: What did you fall on?
Student: The ground.
He kept a straight face as I start laughing. I'm sorry. I couldn't help it. It had been LONG week. I needed the laugh and the little girl was fine.

Old
I've been feeling old lately and I blame it on my students. I played the song "Reach" by Gloria Estefan and none of them have ever even heard it. I looked up Gloria Estefan on Youtube and found the video of "Rhythm is Gonna get you" and played it for them. Not one of them had ever heard of it. They were shocked that I even listened to that stuff (because it is SO old).
My buddy that teaches next door had mentioned Whoopie Goldberg to a class. They had no idea who she was talking about. She started naming off different movies and shows that she's been on. One wonderful student said "We don't know people of olden times!"
Really? Whoopie Goldberg olden times? Oye.
Later that week my daughter's friend said I sounded like her Grandma. I'm sure she meant that I sounded wise. Yeah..I'm sure that's what she meant.

Signing traditions
Signing a yearbook is always a tradition, but it has migrated to many things. T-shirt signing was the coolest thing when I was in middle school. I'be seen graduation stuffed animals, picture matted for weddings, and even plates for baby showers. Today, I've seen it all. A car. We parked in front of a truck that had been signed with messages from many people.

This picture didn't come out well at all (I tried using a new app on my phone and it's dark), but all over the hood are notes. It looks to be a memorial though. I noticed a couple messages saying "I miss you." I guess if you have an old car and it needs a new paint job anyway, then why not have classmates sign it. :P

Mashed Potatoes
I showed KG a picture of a Native American Woman grinding corn. I pointed out what she was doing and asked what she was making by grinding the corn. I usually get answers like "powder or flour" because that's what they see in the picture. Today, I had a little boy yell out "Mashed Potatoes!"
I wasn't aware that you could make mashed potatoes out of corn. You really do learn something new every day. :)

Funny Kids!
I love kids and the things they say. I wish I remembered to write down every funny thing because I'd have a nice book by now!
I was teaching our 4year old class today because Sissy's teacher couldn't be there. We were singing a song and I was checking to see if they really knew the words. The last words our "His truth I will proclaim." After we had just listened to it I asked them "His truth I will....??? what??" One cute little boy said, "His truth I will complain!."
